What Is Health?

Möchte hier erklären das es verschiedene Level gibt zu Health und das weder reductionism noch holism die lösung sind siehe The Fabric of Reality Notes

To build a strong foundation for everything I’m uncovering in The Nexus of Becoming, we must start with the right framework—an external structure that helps us understand how different parts of a system work together and guides our actions. This framework, over time, can shape our inner lens through which we interpret and solve life’s challenges.

Holistic vs Reductionism: The Whole Picture vs an atom

Holistic means stepping back to see the entire system, not just isolated parts. Every element is interconnected, influencing the whole. Recognizing this is essential for applying any framework effectively.

But is it therefore the only way how to think about health? And is a reductionist approach therefore irrelevant?

No of course not. Every level forms part of an all encompassing understanding - however i think that nowadays in an abundance or even excess of information it is necessary to be able to organize and connect these isolated tipps and tricks into a cohesive framework or concept in order to apply them in the most effective way possible.

Health: More Than the Absence of Illness

Health is a tricky concept. We all aspire to be healthy, yet often only notice its value when we lose it. But not feeling sick doesn’t guarantee true health. True health isn’t just the absence of disease—it requires balance, resilience, and well-being across multiple dimensions.

The World Health Organization defines health as:

"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."

This reminds us that health encompasses our body, mind, and relationships.

Holistic Health: Integrating the Whole

Holistic health is about viewing the human being as an integrated whole, where every element—physical, mental, and social—is in constant dialogue. The key question is: What are the parts that make up this whole, and how do they interact?

I lean on the The Biopsychosocial Model as one of the most comprehensive frameworks available. However it is necessary to remind ourselves that every model is an abstraction—a simplified reduction of reality. Therefore it will never be entirely “true”, but its value lies in its ability to guide our understanding and actions.

In essence, holistic health isn’t about treating issues in isolation. It’s about nurturing the interplay between our body, mind, and social environment—a perspective that is essential for lasting, meaningful change.

From Knowledge to Action

But knowledge without application occupies mental space without producing change. To extract wisdom and apply this knowledge, we must ask ourselves a critical question:

How am I defining my health?
