How tos vs Concepts
Most of the notes in my Nexus are divided into two categories: How-Tos and Concepts/Explanations.
-
How-Tos:
These are answers to the question, "What should I do in a specific situation?" They deliver a high short-term ROI when you face the problem I describe. In those moments, step-by-step guidance can be incredibly effective. -
Concepts/Explanations:
These address "Why should I do something?" They provide a general framework that explains the rationale behind the How-Tos. This broader perspective allows you to adapt the advice to your unique circumstances, ensuring the techniques are truly impactful over the long term.
I don't want to diminish the value of either category. In fact, the real power emerges when you consider both together. Take, for example, my guides on sleep optimization. On their own, the How-Tos are valuable when you face specific sleep issues. However, your motivation and the effectiveness of those steps will only reach their full potential when you understand the underlying concepts of sleep. With that framework in place, you can critically assess which techniques will work best for you in your specific situation.
This integrated approach—melding practical steps with conceptual insight—creates a robust, adaptable method for tackling life's challenges.
